Abstract: What kind of self-development is needed for Information Professionals? What kind of attitude toward information they should have? Based on the experience as a reference librarian, the author discusses the self-development that can lead to professional fulfillment and success and then provides audience with the technique for dealing with information. In the first half, the author focuses on how to handle and utilize information resources: Knowing various nature of information by using such examples as 1) examining the nature of various information resources 2) understanding how information resources are edited and compiled 3) observing cognitive processes in which skilled users use information. In the latter half, the author reflects on how professionals should be like and emphasizes the importance of having good communication and mutual understanding with our clients.
