The present conditions and problem of the patent information education

Abstract: The patent investigation is said to be important. In addition, cheap databases spread, and the environment of the investigation by the end user is regulated well, and the cases which entrust a part of the patent investigation to they end user increase. On the other hand, the importance of the person of patent investigation exclusive duty increases, too. Even if I say, there will not be the importance of the patent information education to a talented person taking these patent investigations. I spoke how there should be the education to the leading figure of the investigation in consideration of a skill necessary for the leading figure of the patent investigation and the level here. In addition, I suggested it about the method of the making of the education curriculum.

Abstract: This paper introduces the training course for a patent information searcher in Canon Technical Information Services Inc. @The training course has three steps. The first step is a so-called gElementary courseh for about two weeks. The second is an gOn the Job Trainingh for a half year. The third is a gFollow up educationh, which aims to recognize problems in search works and get settlements for them. Furthermore, after above courses, the trainees make a group activity for improving their search query, to study queries made by other searchers and learn how to make a smarter query.

Abstract: Patent search system for end users are becoming more prevalent. But It is not so easy for end users engaged in development duties everyday to master a patent search system alone. Therefore, we consider the effective utilization of the search system is essential to collaboration with the searcher. And in Sumitomo Electric Intellectual Property & Technology Center, we planned to realize the fusion of the searcher having search technique with an end user having technical knowledge. At first we introduced the search system which was easy to perform co-operation after examination in various ways. Then we built the collabolation system by trying for the construction of the database utilizing this introduction system and placed it with end user education.

Abstract: SHOWA DENKO has been focusing on enhancing engineersf knowledge and skills for technical information search aiming at enabling the engineers to do prior art search and technical trend search, needed in an early development stage, by themselves. @In search education programs, a lot of time tends to be used to teach how to search database. In our programs, the contents have improved to include not only search technique training but also education on how to evaluate, analyze and strategically use the search result retrieved by engineers themselves through effective collaboration between IP knowledge education and information search education initiated by the education working group of IP section as well as education on complementary usage of both patent and non-patent information. @Our next challenge is to develop quality and skills of engineers so that they can facilitate IP strategy themselves and to further enhance their level of awareness toward the importance of IP.

In this article, it is introduced an outline of a patent search database of the Israeli Patent Office. Unfortunately, patents are not available for a search in full text, but search by applicant, title, classification and patent status is possible. We can view and download the patent specification, and also check the detailed patent status on the website.
