Abstract: By using a conceptual model of document demands and services, this paper aims to examine the present situation and future issues of ILL/DDS. It became clear that "Big Deal" contracts and the dissemination of digital contents have brought a change in the reduction of ILL requests, while the document demand itself seems to increase in general in academic institutions. Meanwhile, it seems that the decrease of photocopy requests in companies is due to the shrink of document demands. The digitization of scholarly journals has improved the availability of journal articles, though it is necessary to establish a nation-wide document supply system as quickly as possible.

Abstract: With budget reductions, academic libraries in the United States use interlibrary loan and document delivery services as a means to effectively share resources. Despite the fact that the number of ILL transactions is decreasing globally, it has increased for many libraries in the US. This can be attributed to the fact that US academic libraries have taken innovative approaches to improve ILL services and management including constantly applying new information technology. On the other hand, the introduction of new services and the increase of e-resources have created new problems. This paper discusses the ILL activities in the US academic libraries to illustrate the change, development, and challenges the libraries are facing.

Abstract: Medical Library of the Japan Medical Association is one of libraries that had the most requests for copying via Inter-Library Loan system of National Institute of Informatics (NACSIS-ILL). The result of collecting requests for copying from 2007 to 2010 showed how the spread of the Internet had affected our library users. There has been shown the decrease in the number of asking copies seemingly owing to using documents on the Internet, such as documents obtained by Open access. On the other hand, the number of requesting documents, which are not digitized or open-accessed, tends to be increasing. It will be thought more important to find out in copy services and some requests via ILL and offer, documents which users find difficult to get for themselves.

Abstract: The number of Document Delivery by Japanese corporations has significantly declined in recent years. The drop-off is mainly attributed to the fact that many research institutes have experienced budget cuts stemming from the global monetary crisis and recession caused by the sub-prime loans crash in the United States. In addition, increased use of electronic journals by corporations has also affected the practice of Document Delivery Service. Despite being practiced on a global scale and having shifted to an e-DDS format which delivers documents electronically through the internet, the market for Document Delivery Service has not expanded. In fact, it has been occupied by only a few players with no new player coming into the market.
The e-DDS format is facing difficulties due to competition with Pay Per View services provided by publishers. In the long run, article-based delivery is anticipated to grow into e-Article delivery, and distributors who understand users' needs, provide flexibility and realize a simple service integrating Pay Per View or even e-DDS, will eventually rule the market.

Abstract: By using commercial database or Espacenet, some patent information can be obtained. However, there is not enough information in the system. I introduce Taiwan Patent Office Web site which provides very useful information. In chapter 3, this provides a pictorial overview of the major features of each screen in the system and useful information on how you can use TPO to search the data. The system provide a lot of information not easily obtained elsewhere.
