Abstract: J-GLOBAL, provided by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), is a service to support finding new ideas and collecting multidisciplinary information in the stages of seeking new challenges and academia-industry cooperation. JST aims at contributing to bringing innovation in Japan by disseminating high-quality scientific and technological information through J-GLOBAL making the most of various S&T-related databases from JST and other organizations. This article summarizes the mechanism of "federated search", which is provided by J-GLOBAL, along with screen shots and future prospects.

Abstract: Nowadays, web search engines have features to blend other vertical search results into web search results. It is called aggregated search. Here, vertical search includes news, blog, image, video, real time information search such as twitter, and so on. Web search engines do not always blend these vertical search results. Instead, they decide when they should blend vertical search results, and which vertical search results should be blended depending on input queries. In this paper, we survey the techniques and evaluation schemes to blend vertical search results into web search results. After that, we will discuss its feature.

Abstract: Due to the fact that search engines are widely accepted into academic, a demand has increased year by year for the system, which enables users to search scattered academic resources on the internet efficiently. Development of efficient search systems for academic resources has been promoted. However there is a wide gap between users' expectations and system providers' intentions. This paper reports feature of metasearch system and integrated search system and also differences in search method of the two systems. Ex Libris' discovery and delivery solution known as Primo and Primo Central are featured in the paper.

Abstract: In April 2011 Bukkyo Universtiy Library has become the very first library in Japan to implement the "Summon" - a powerful unified search tool for access and discovery of electronic resources. Summon is designed to be used with OPAC, together with the link resolver to maximize its performance as an electronic resources discovery tool. However, there are still a few minor interoperability problems that are yet to be resolved, e.g., the communication protocols and the catalogue records deletion function - between Summon and OPAC with the Japanese domestic record standards. Link resolvers are most important for Summon, because they are able to build the hybrid Library by creating the "hybrid" outbound links from Summon - to link up between the electric full-text articles/contents and the printed book and serials titles under OPAC.

Abstract: This paper introduces the federated search system services of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research Information Technology Center (AFFRIT) from 1984 to now. AFFRIT has developed a federated search system, called "Database Quick Search", by MetaLib, X-Server and Xerxes. Xerxes is an open source software that provides frontend functions. In the future, AFFRIT will develop and update this federated search system for expanding its search targets more widely and to get information that satisfy more users' needs by analyzing user behaviors with usage of databases and articles.

Abstract: This paper describes a cooperative practice using Twitter between two universities. Twitter is the most popular social networking tool in Japan. We offered a class about electronic books between two universities. In the class, we gave an assignment of report and feedback about using Twitter. The situation of the two classes was different of place, time, and member. Using Twitter, we could communicate each other beyond those boundaries. Even a librarian could join the class. Considering students' feedback, our teaching scheme and materials have a room for improvement.
