Abstract: Library service at an enterprise has changed due to the growth of information transfer through the Internet represented by electronic journals, and the conventional storage and archiving function of reference materials are changing to the function to manage the transfer of information. This paper introduces changes in the function expected for this library department, with focus on the case of management at the Research & Development Center of Asahi Breweries, LTD., as well as the concept for library design implemented in 2008.
Since a new library was the relocation of facilities to a high-ceiling hall of a building, there were many restrictions in design, such as in the arrangement of book racks. In spite of this, with the concept of an "Open Library," a space compatible with both of research and communication has been proposed. In addition, as for the functions expected for a future library, challenges we are making at present are introduced.
