The feasibility study and comments on the transformation from librarian, curator and archivist to information professional in Japan

Abstract : The information professional which has recently been proposed in Japan is a concept to overcome bounds of existing librarians and documentalists who are regarded as the most favorable to the information professional and to cope with the information society. The qualifications of librarian and curator are controlled by the social education law in Japan.
There are some problems to be resolved to transform from librarian and documentalist to information professional. Those problems are the establishment of education system including professional school for information professional, law system for new qualification of information works, and development of new business models for information services.

E-learning as an effective means for professional development

Abstract : nformation Professionals are required PD (Professional Development) in a variety of ways so that they accommodate development of IT and social changes. In this essay, I have examined whole concept of E-learning program as a self-improvement for Information Professionals. In concrete terms, I have examined the transition and the meaning of E-learning, described the technique for Information Professionals to accomplish E-learning program, and described the plan of Net University that achieves these.
